Greenville, Cleveland, Clarksdale, and the surrounding Delta counties suit this breed for the reason most of Mississippi does not: there is real work here. Farm property, equipment yards, shops, and hunting land all give a property aware dog a genuine role.
The constraint is access. Breeders and trainers are both a long drive away, so plan accordingly rather than settling for whatever is close.
What makes the Delta different
Agricultural property shapes everything. A trained shepherd is useful around shops, equipment, and grain facilities, and an untrained one is a hazard around livestock and poultry. That distinction is entirely about your training plan rather than the dog.
Chemical exposure is a real consideration that most breed guides never mention. Keep the dog clear of freshly treated ground and unrinsed equipment, rinse paws after contact, and make sure your veterinarian knows what is used on your operation.
Training access is the weak point. Local options are thin, and Jackson, Memphis, or Arkansas clubs mean a serious drive. Decide honestly in advance whether that will happen, because a working line dog without structured work becomes a problem rather than an asset.
Summers run hot with high humidity, so the early and late exercise schedule applies from June into September.
Getting to the kennel

Verify everything you can before driving: health testing PDFs, registered parent names checked in a public pedigree database, and contract terms including the return clause. Then make one trip to meet the dam and the litter.

Large animal veterinary coverage is generally good across the Delta given the agricultural base, and small animal emergency coverage can be thin overnight. Find out now which clinic you would drive to at 2am for a bloat emergency, because that drive is part of your risk.
For training, start with whatever obedience is local and plan the travel for sport work. Begin structured handler work around 12 weeks.

Very well, with training, since the breed was developed for property and herding work. A trained shepherd around equipment, shops, and grain facilities is an asset.
