The standard comes first
Judge any breeder on four things: published health testing on both parents, a pedigree you verify yourself, an eight week minimum placement age, and a written contract with a lifetime return clause. Those four remove most of the risk in this purchase.

Why a Louisiana program for Mississippi buyers
Mississippi has few working line programs, and several regions of this state sit closer to Louisiana breeders than to anything in state. From the Gulf Coast the drive is under two hours, and from the Jackson metro it is under three.
State lines are a convenience question rather than a quality one. Compare programs on the four checks above, and use the one that meets them.
The program
Companion Kennels is a small breeding program on the Louisiana Northshore working with East German DDR and Czech bloodlines. The foundation dogs are Zoey, Deva, and Beau, from DDR and West German working lines with Czech influence, and their pedigrees are available to look up rather than merely described.
Litters are limited, puppies are placed from a waitlist, and buyers are screened before deposits are taken.
What they do not do
They do not ship puppies sight unseen, run continuous litters, or price by coat color. Where a household is a poor match for a working line dog they say so rather than making the sale.
That last point is the reason for the recommendation. A breeder willing to lose a sale is one whose other answers you can trust.
